Question: How can I tell if my baking powder and baking soda are still fresh?
Answer: Both leavening agents, baking powder and baking soda can usually last up to 6 months, but there are tests that you can do to determine the freshness of each.
Baking Powder: mix 1 t. with ½ cup hot water. The mixture should bubble immediately. If it does not bubble, it is time to replace it.
Baking Soda: mix ¼ t. with 2 t. of vinegar. The mixture should bubble immediately. If it does not bubble, it is time to replace it.
